
K-12 and early childhood education are topics of conversation often in St. Joseph, but the state of higher education in our community can’t be overlooked. Dr. Elizabeth Kennedy, President of Missouri Western State University, talked about important issues Thursday morning at the Chamber’s Public Affairs Coffee, like funding, enrollment and students and staff accomplishments.
As Buchanan County population has declined, so has enrollment at MWSU over the years. However, as enrollment continues to decline rapidly at other higher education institutions, the decline has slowed dramatically at MWSU. And, as always, MWSU is fighting for more appropriations to be more in line with other regional universities.
A new marketing campaign is being launched to help attract students and everyone was reminded that while technical education is important, college is too. To learn more about MWSU and the programs offered, see this site.
