Legislators Give Update at Public Affairs Coffee

Local legislators updated members of the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce on wins and losses from the recently-completed legislative session in Jefferson City. All in attendance agreed that it was an unusual year and less productive than normal with a record low number of non-budget bills passed. But Rep. Dean VanSchoiack reminded the audience that that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

“Bills shouldn’t be easy to pass,” he said.

Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer, Rep. Brenda Shields and Rep. Bill Falkner did discuss successes from the session including funding approvals for Rosecrans Memorial Airport, the foundation formula and Missouri Western State University.

Farmers State Bank was the presenting sponsor of the event.
