Members of our local legislative delegation provided an update on the recent legislative session at the Public Affairs Coffee on June 26, 2025.
The group discussed some of what was accomplished and their roles, for example, Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer discussed his experience being the majority floor leader.
Rep. Bill Falkner discussed HB 199, which started as a fix for the Chapter 100 bond program, but grew to be 197 pages including issues like nuisance property rules and land bank regulations.
Rep. Brenda Shields discussed school safety legislation, which includes having emergency operations plans and behavioral risk assessments that will follow kids from school to school.
Rep. Sean Pouche said, especially with the World Cup coming in 2026, transportation infrastructure needs to be a priority, but the government needs to be as efficient as possible with taxes and cut expenses on transportation projects.
Rep. Dean Van Schoiack talked about legislation that allows utility companies to include Construction Work in Progress (CWIP) in base rate plans. He said this will allow Missouri to be a producer of electricity.
The Public Affairs Coffee series features issues involving social, economic, governmental, legislative and corporate activities that are of concern to Chamber members and the business community. It is presented by Farmers State Bank.
