COVID Documentation Questions Answered

The Chamber has heard from many businesses and employees about some confusion during the pandemic and the Shelter at Home order. Please read below to dispel any misunderstandings:

Your employees CANNOT receive documentation about COVID-19 from Mosaic healthcare providers. From Mosaic Life Care:

“Employers should not require a positive COVID-19 test result or a healthcare provider’s note for employees who are sick to validate their illness, qualify for sick leave or to return to work. Healthcare provider offices and medical facilities may be extremely busy and not able to provide such documentation in a timely manner.”

Your employees DO NOT need documentation to go to work. Some employers have given employees documents stating they work for an “essential” business, but this practice is not required. For more information on sick leave, paid time off and EFMLA, see the Chamber’s COVID-19 webpage. From the City of St. Joseph:

“The City of St. Joseph does not require documentation for an employee to report to work or for an employee to travel to and from work.”

Thank you for your cooperation during this trying time.
